钱乘旦，男，汉族，1949年生，江苏金坛人。 高中就读于江苏省四大名校之一的南京师范大学附属中学，1973年参加高考，考入南京大学英语系。1985年于南京大学历史系获博士学位后，曾赴哈佛大学和爱丁堡大学作博士后。现任北京大学历史系教授、博士生导师、国务院学位委员会历史学科组成员、国家社会科学基金专家评审组成员、教育部社会科学委员会委员、中国英国史研究会会长、英国皇家历史学会通讯会士，澳门大学历史学系学兼职教授等职。2003年11月曾与齐世荣教授一起向中央政治局第九次集体学习作《15世纪以来世界主要国家发展历史考察》的专题讲解。 学科专长及研究方向 英国史；世界史；现代化历史比较；西方文化史。 目前承当的科研项目 主持211项目“英国及英联邦国家现代化研究”，985项目“英国及发达国家现代化研究”，国家“十五”社科基金项目“帝国解体与当代资本主义”。
